Let us take you through some of western Norway’s most striking scenery, with grand mountains rising from the fjords and imposing waterfalls. The express cruise is the easiest and fastest way to get from Bergen to the village of Rosendal. This is where you’ll find some of the region’s star attractions: dazzling Hardangerfjord, spectacular scenic cliff Trolltunga and Folgefonna National Park with the country’s third largest glacier. Not in the least: Barony Rosendal, with roots in the 1600s, Scandinavia’s smallest castle in an idyllic setting with lovely, fragrant gardens as well as cafes and a restaurant. The modern, comfortable boats have sundecks and kiosks offering refreshments, including beer and wine.

The trip starts by a fjord cruise from Bergen to Rosendal. It takes  two hours each way, and we have about 3 1/2 hours in Rosendal to explore the pretty village and its surroundings. At the Barony we will do a guided round tour in the castle and the renaissance garden before our lunch is served in the Garden Cafè.

The Barony Rosendal:
The Barony is the smallest 'castle' in Scandinavia and the only one of its kind in Norway. Among other things, the Barony is famous for its impressive landscape park and rose garden and for the rich programme of cultural events it hosts, which include concerts, courtyard theatre performances, talks and art exhibitions. There is also a pleasant garden café next to the herb garden. Karen Mowat and Ludvig Rosenkrantz were given the farm Hatteberg in Kvinnherad as a wedding present, and this is where they built the small castle, which they named Rosendal. It was completed in 1665. A visit to the Barony Rosendal gives you the opportunity to wander among different style eras, from 1665 until the last owners left in 1927.

The Barony’s famous rose garden:
The Barony Rosendal is set in beautiful, historical gardens, with a 300-year-old renaissance garden that abounds in roses, a romantic landscape park from the 1850s, and a kitchen and herb garden full of herbs, flowers, vegetables, fruit and berries. The gardens have been developed over the centuries, and feature different garden styles and fashions. Here, you can experience more than 300 years of history.
