Luxury Coastal Cruise and Bocuse d’Or Lunch at Bekkjarvik Guesthouse
Explore the coastline outside Bergen and visit the outport of Bekkjarvik on this private cruise with a luxury boat, the Premium Explorer 50 Yacht.
The beautiful fjords and the vast Atlantic ocean meet in the coastal landscape west of Bergen. This area is made up of a string of thousands of large and small islands, and many of them are connected to the mainland by bridges. Out here at the ocean’s edge, you can enjoy the vast sky and panoramic views.
The string of islands forms a barrier between the sea and fjords. The sea lashes the coast on the western side, while the waters are often calmer on the sheltered side.

Bekkjarvik, situated in the beautiful island municipality of Austevoll south of Bergen, is an old fishing village with old buildings and quays. The village is home to the venerable Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri, an old inn built in the 17th century, where they have been welcoming guests for more than 300 years. It was the Danish King Christian IV who decided that inns were to be built at intervals of a whole or half day’s sailing along the shipping fairway.
Through the ages, trapping and fishing have been the livelihoods of the people in Austevoll. In Bekkjarvik salted herring, exported lobster, made thousands of barrels and hangers for closing nets. Here was a boathouse, bakery, and distillery. Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri has always been a natural focal point in this lush bustle. Bekkjarvik and guest house bloom into the new era. The old barrel factory and the store are aesthetically restored. The buildings are well kept and the people are friendly. The inn welcomes guests from far and wide, either for business, recreation, and meetings.
In Bekkjarvik we have lunch at the famous restaurant at Bekkjarvik Guesthouse. The restaurant’s chef, Ørjan Johannessen, won the gold medal at the Bocuse d’Or cooking competition in Lyon, France in 2015. Bekkjarvik Guesthouse is known for its excellent cuisine based on local and fresh products. The restaurant has a high standard without being pretentious.
